The Jesuits and the French Revolution

Introduction

No one can remain indifferent towards the Jesuits (officially called the Society of Jesus). Hundreds of books have been written about the Jesuits. These books are either for the Jesuits or against the Jesuits. They are written by those who either admire the Jesuits, or written by those who hate (and fear) the Jesuits. [Even those who ‘admire’ the Jesuits – they also fear the Jesuits]. Many have tried to define the Jesuits and they find it a difficult task, nevertheless, here are some of the more noteworthy efforts:

…an institution absolutely unique in history. Encyclopedia Britannica, vol. 13, 9th Edition, 1875-89, p. 646.

JESUITS, or SOCIETY OF JESUS, the religious order founded by Ignatius Loyola (q.v.) in 1534, and approved of by bull of Paul III in 1540, for the conversion of heretics and the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith, and reputed, however self-denying, to be unscrupulous in the means its members employed to achieve their ends, which were, broadly speaking, to re-establish over Christendom the authority of the [Roman Catholic] Church.  Pears Cyclopedia, art. Jesuits.

…it is impossible to call to mind the religious institutions, the religious, political and literary history of Europe during the last three centuries, without meeting the Jesuits at every step; we cannot travel in the most distant countries, traverse unknown seas, visit the most remote lands, or penetrate the most frightful deserts without finding under our feet some memorials of the Jesuits. Jaime Balmes, Protestantism and Catholicity Compared in their Effects on the Civilization of Europe, 1849, p. 220.

What other Religion has a secret constitution, hidden privileges, and concealed laws of its own?  And what other order has all those things which relate to its government involved in so much mystery?  There is suspicion in mystery.  The rules of all other orders are open to all… But the superiors of the Jesuits do not govern them by the rules of the church, which are known to all, but by certain secret rules which are only known to those superiors. Robert J. Breckinridge, Papism in the XIX Century, in the United States, (Baltimore: David Owen & Son, 1841), pp. 310, 311.

The Jesuit Order, therefore, stands before us as the embodiment of a system which aims at temporal political domination through temporal political means, embellished by religion, which assigns to the head of the Catholic religion – the Roman Pope – the role of a temporal overlord, and under shelter of the Pope-King, and using him as an instrument, desires itself to attain the dominion over the whole world.  Count von Hoensbroech, (German Noble and ex-Jesuit), Forty Years a Jesuit, translated by Alice Zimmern, (Cassell and Company, Ltd., New York. 1911), Vol. II, p. 430.

At what then do the Jesuits aim? According to them, they only seek the greater glory of God, but if you examine the facts, you will find that they aim at universal dominion alone. They have rendered themselves indispensable to the Pope, who, without them, could not exist, because Catholicism is identified with them. They have rendered themselves indispensable to governors and hold revolutions in their hands; and in this way, either under one name or another, it is they who rule the world… Luigi Desanctis, (ex-Catholic priest), Popery, Puseyism and Jesuitism, 2nd edition, translated by Maria Betts, (London: D. Catt, 74, Strand, W.C., 1905), p. 139.

Never before in the course of the world’s history had such a Society appeared. The old Roman Senate itself did not lay schemes for world domination with greater certainty of success. Malachi Martin, (ex-Jesuit), The Jesuits, p. 27.

“The Jesuits are a military organization, not a religious order. Their chief is a general of an army, not the mere father abbot of a monastery. And the aim of this organization is power.  Power in its most despotic exercise. Absolute power, universal power, power to control the world by the volition of a single man. Jesuitism is the most absolute of despotisms: and at the same time the greatest and most enormous of abuses… The general of the Jesuits insists on being master, sovereign, over the sovereign. Wherever the Jesuits are admitted they will be masters, cost what it may. Their society is by nature dictatorial, and therefore it is the irreconcilable enemy of all constituted authority. Every act, every crime, however atrocious, is a meritorious work, if committed for the interest of the Society of Jesuits, or by the order of the general.” Richard Thompson, quoting Napoleon Bonaparte, The Footprints of the Jesuits, p. 176.

With so widely ramifying and complex a system in full working order, controlled by the hand of one man, the Company of Jesus has been aptly defined as “a naked sword, whose hilt is at Rome, and whose point is everywhere.” Encyclopaedia Britannica, vol. 13, 9th ed. p. 648.

“Our ancient enemies have small belief in our common sense if they imagine that we shall ever be able to trust them, after having so often beheld the depths of Jesuitical cunning and duplicity. The sooner we let certain Archbishops and Cardinals know that we are aware of their designs, and will in nothing cooperate with them the better for us and our country. Of course, we shall be howled at as bigots, but we can afford to smile at that cry, when it comes from the church which invented the Inquisition, ‘No peace with Rome’ is the motto of reason as well as religion.” Eric Jon Phelps, quoting Charles Spurgeon (1873), Vatican Assassins, p.364.

Jesus said, “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither anything hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. (Lu. 8:17). Many things seek to remain hidden and secret, but Jesus said all these things will become known, and in spite of all their best efforts, the secrets of the Jesuits have become known. And one of their greatest secrets, is that it was they, using freemasonry as their proxy, that instigated the French Revolution in 1789 and it was they using the French army, as their proxy, that abolished the papacy in 1798. The purpose of this appendix, is to explain why they did these things and how they did these things.

The Catholic Church Abolishes the Jesuits

The Protestant Reformation has a long history, but for simplicities sake it is generally believed that it began in 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his protest on the Wittenberg Church door. The Jesuits were recognised, as a new Catholic order, by the papacy 17 years later, in 1534. The original purpose of the Jesuits, was to destroy the Protestant Reformation. Their motto was/is, ‘the end justifies the means.’ Their ‘means’ included/includes; war, murder, assassinations, poisoning, insurrection, revolution, media, banking and finance and political intrigue of all kinds. They quickly became so infamous, that in their early history they were banned from over 80 different nations, city states and other principalities. For example, they were banned from the Portuguese Empire in 1759, France in 1764, the Spanish Empire in 1767, the Austrian Empire in 1782 and the German Empire in 1872. The authorities that banned the Jesuits were all Roman Catholic (except for Germany). The Catholic nations that banned the Jesuits, were so incensed at the murder and mayhem they caused, that they put intense pressure on the Vatican papacy to abolish them. The papacy was open to the suggestion, because it too, was struggling to control the Jesuits, as the following quotation testifies:

The first mutterings of the storm which was soon to break were heard in a severe brief issued in 1741 by Benedict XIV, the most learned and able of the latter popes, wherein he denounced the Jesuits as “disobedient, contumacious, captious, and reprobate persons,” and enacted many stringent regulations for their better government; and this was followed up by two bulls, in 1742, and in 1744, striking at their continued insubordination in the matter of the Chinese rites, which however, did not save them from an edict of banishment from China itself in 1753, and the last of them disappeared thence in 1774. Encyclopedia Britannica, vol. 13, 9th Edition, p. 654.

The first attempt to abolish the Jesuits failed, because they assassinated the pope (Clement XIII). The next pope, took the name of Clement XIV, indicating that he would follow the same policies as his predecessor, and he vowed and declared that he would abolish the Jesuits. Clement XIV, formally abolished the Jesuits in 1773. After he signed the abolition decree, he said:

“The suppression is accomplished, I do not repent of it, having only resolved on it after examining and weighing everything, and because I thought it necessary for the church.  If it were not done, I would do it now.  But this suppression will be my death.”  John Dowling, The History of Romanism, (Edward Walker, New York, 1845), p. 604.

Pope Clement XIV knew very well that, by signing their [the Jesuits’] death warrant, he was signing his own as well… Posters started to appear displaying these five letters: I.S.S.S.V. Translated, it meant, In September the See will be Vacant [the Pope would be dead]. We can positively affirm that, on 22nd of September 1774, Pope Clement XIV died by poisoning. Edmund Paris, The Secret History of the Jesuits, p 70, 71.

The Jesuits and the Illuminati

The Jesuits did not disband, or disappear, after being ‘cancelled’ by the papacy. They went underground and just like the Templars before them, they reorganised and remerged as a different entity – the Illuminati.

In spite of all attempts to ridicule who mentions the Illuminati, by labelling the subject ‘conspiracy theory’ perpetrated by ‘conspiracy theorists,’ the Illuminati is a well-documented fact. It is well documented fact, because the Bavarian police raided the homes of the leading conspirators and published what they found. Therefore, there is well-documented proof that the Illuminati was/is a Jesuit creation, beginning with these documents published by the Bavarian police. The reason why the Jesuits created the Illuminati, was to use secret societies as a proxy and a cover, for their revenge against kings and popes and their eventual restoration and re-establishment.

Just three years after the abolition of the Jesuits, the Illuminati was launched by Adam Weishaupt, in the city of Ingolstadt, Bavaria, in 1776. Why did this ‘new manifestation of satanic power’ get birthed and launched in Bavaria? Answer: because Bavaria was a kingdom dominated by the Jesuits:

In 1542 the Jesuits were established in Bavaria. Encyclopedia Britannica, vol. 19, p. 434.

The degree of power to which the representatives of the Society of Jesus had been able to attain in Bavaria was all but absolute. Members of the order were the confessors and preceptors of the electors; hence they had a direct influence upon the policies of government. The censorship of religion had fallen into their eager hands, to the extent that some of the parishes even were compelled to recognize their authority and power. To exterminate all Protestant influence and to render the Catholic establishment complete, they had taken possession of the instruments of public education. It was by Jesuits that the majority of the Bavarian colleges were founded, and by them they were controlled. By them also the secondary schools of the country were conducted. Forestier, Les Illuminés de Bavière et la Franc-Maçonnerie allmande, p.109, Vernon L. Stauffer, Ph.d., New England and the Bavarian Illuminati.

Why was Ingolstadt, the city in Bavaria, chosen as the birthplace of the Illuminati? Answer: because the University of Ingolstadt was a Jesuit university:

Johan Eck who made the university a bastion for the traditional Catholic faith in southern Germany. In Eck’s wake, many Jesuits were appointed to key positions in the school, and the university, over most of the 17th century, gradually came fully under the control of the Jesuit order.   Wikipedia, art. Ingolstadt University.

Why was Adam Weishaupt chosen to be the ‘founder’ and ‘leader’ of the Illuminati? Answer: because he was a Jesuit:

The movement was founded on May 1, 1776, in Ingolstadt as the Order of the Illuminati, with an initial membership of five, by Jesuit taught Adam Weishaupt (d. 1830), who was the first lay professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt.  Wikipedia, art, Illuminati.

Adam Weishaupt the Jesuit

At this point, those who want to deny the Jesuit origins of the Illuminati, claim that Weishaupt was an ex-Jesuit, or that, he did indeed have a high position in the Jesuit University, but that he secretly hated the Jesuits. However, it is preposterous to believe that a professor who taught canon law (Roman Catholic Church law) in a Jesuit University, in a Jesuit stronghold, such as Bavaria, that such a person was not a Jesuit. The Jesuits simply do not work like that. All who enter into their service are sworn devotees of the Jesuit cause, punishable by death for disobedience.

Nevertheless, many who comment on this history, invariably diminish Weishaupt’s Jesuitism, however, they all go on to point out, that the Illuminati was constructed exactly like the Jesuit order, complete with all the rules, rituals and regulations. The only thing that was different was that God was missing. The Illuminati was a carbon copy of the Jesuits, but the Illuminati was a secular version for secular people and the Society of Jesus was the ‘religious’ version for ‘religious’ people.

In addition, we have the testimony of Baron Knigge. Knigge was Weishaupt’s closest and most influential associate. [It was Knigge who was Weishaupt’s most effective ‘evangelist’ for planting Illuminism inside Freemasonry]. Knigge, eventually resigned from the Illuminati and one of the reasons he resigned, was because he accused Weishaupt of being a secret Jesuit. The following quotation is from the original police files that were published by the Bavarian police, after the raids of the leading members homes:

On April 20,1784, Knigge resigned from the Illuminati convinced of Weishaupt’s Jesuitism, accusing him of being “a Jesuit in disguise.” Nachtrag von Weiterein Original Schriften Part I (1897), p. 129.

John Robison, was a professor from Edinburgh University in Scotland. He was also a Freemason. He had heard rumours that Freemasonry was responsible for the French Revolution. A principal source of these rumours, was the Abbe Baruel (French Catholic priest, originally a Jesuit) who wrote a book entitled ‘Memoirs of the History of Jacobinism and Freemasonry of Baruel’ in 1797. In this work of four volumes, he accused freemasonry of organising the French Revolution. These books were translated into every modern language and widely read:

Abbe Baruel, (French Catholic priest} who in 1797 wrote a book blaming the Freemasons for the horrors of the French Revolution, argued that the Freemasons of 1789 were the heirs of the fourteenth-century Templars who had been rightly punished by their King and the Pope. He believed that the Freemasons were taking revenge for the justifiable actions of Philippe le Bel by guillotining Philippe’s descendant, the saintly King Louis XVI. Jasper Ridley, The Freemasons, p. 26, 27.

But John Robison did not want to believe, that the organisation, that he belonged to, could carry out such atrocities, therefore he went to France in order to conduct an investigation and prove that Freemasonry was innocent of the charges made against it. Unfortunately, Robison was dismayed to find the rumours were true, and he was honourable enough, to write a book admitting that Freemasonry was indeed guilty of being the secret instigators of the Revolution. He entitled the book ‘Proofs of a Conspiracy’ in this book, he records what Weishaupt was saying to the Jesuits who had been ‘cancelled’ by the Catholic Church:

Weishaupt had long been scheming the establishment of an Association of Order, which in time, should govern the world… he hinted to several ex-Jesuits the probability of their recovering under a new name, the influence which they formerly possessed. John T. Robison, Proofs of a Conspiracy, ch.2.

Robison had a lot more to say about the influence of the Jesuits on Freemasonry, after the Jesuits were abolished:

At this time [the Jesuit suppression] the Jesuits took a more active hand in Free Masonry than ever. They insinuated themselves into the English lodges… At this time changes were made in some of the Masonic symbols, particularly In the tracing of the Lodge, which bear evident marks of Jesuitical interference. More degrees of chivalry were added… till some Parisian Lodges had forty-five ranks of Masonry, having fifteen orders of chivalry… All of these had some reference to some mystical doctrines of the Christian Church [Catholicism], and were, in fact, contrivances of the Church of Rome for securing and extending her influence on the laymen of rank and fortune, whom she restrained in her service by these play-things. The Knights Templars of Jerusalem… whose office it was to protect pilgrims, and to defend the Holy city, afforded very apt models for Masonic mimicry… In all this progressive mummery we see much of the hand of the Jesuits, and it would seem that it was encouraged by the Church of Rome. I saw that the Jesuits had several times interfered in it (freemasonry); and that most of the exceptionable innovations and dissentions had arisen about the time that the order of Loyola was suppressed; so that it should seem, that these intriguing brethren [Jesuits] had attempted to maintain their influence by the help of Free Masonry… This is not groundless declamation, but sober historical truth… The Association of which I have been speaking, is the Order of Illuminati, founded by Adam Weishaupt, professor of Canon Law in the university of Ingolstadt.  John T. Robison, Proofs of a Conspiracy, ch.2.

Robison points out that the Jesuit infiltration of Freemasonry was encouraged by the Church of Rome, but at the same time Catholics were forbidden to become members of Freemasonry and officially and publicly the Catholic Church condemned Freemasonry.  The only conclusion, one can make of this apparent hypocrisy, is that the Jesuits were redesigning Freemasonry into not just a medium for revolution, but also as a medium of Catholicism for Protestants, dressed up as ‘progressive mummery.’ To which the historian John Daniel agrees:

The truth is, the Jesuits of Rome have perfected Freemasonry to be their most magnificent and effective tool, accomplishing their purposes among Protestants…  John Daniel, The Grand Design Exposed, (Middleton, Idaho: CHJ Publishing, 1999), p. 302.

And the Freemasons themselves, at the highest levels, admit that there are similarities between Freemasonry and Catholicism:

The opinion has been entertained by several writers of eminence that the Company of Jesus, more briefly styled the Jesuits, sought… to mingle with Freemasonry… It is admitted that Roman Catholic, if not Jesuitical, features are to be found in some of the high degrees [i.e., of Freemasonry]. Albert G. Mackey, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, (McClure Publishing Co. Philadelphia, 1917), p. 329.

We also have the testimony of one who emerged from the occult world and founded the Theosophical Society (the originators and pushers of the ‘new age movement’) – Madame Blavatsky.

It is curious to note that most of the bodies which work these, such as the Ancient and Accepted Scotish Rite, the Rite of Avignon, the Order of the Temple, Fesslor’s Rite, the ‘Grand Council of the Emperors of the East and West Sovereign Prince Masons’, etc., etc., are nearly all offsprings of the sons  of Ignatius Loyola. The Baron Hundt, Chevalier Ramsey, Tschoudy, Zinnendorf, and numerous others, who founded the grades in these rites, worked under instructions from  the General of the Jesuits.”  H. P. Blavatsky, Isis Unveiled, (Los Angeles, The Theosophy Company, 1968, p. 390).

Many regular historians have seen the same as those already quoted. The historian Eduard Duller wrote:

Thus constituted, the illuminati were, in some measure, a revivification of the Jesuits, although under the perverted use of the Freemason formula. Duller, and Carr, The Jesuits, as they were and are, op. cit., p. 165.

Ideology of Illuminati

Like all secret societies, the Illuminati had/has a ‘public face’ for public consumption, and a ‘private face’ for private consumption. The public face was/is all about philanthropy (i.e. generous billionaires giving away their fortunes to charities and foundations to promote, democracy, human rights, social justice, environmentalism, equity, public health etc. and ad nauseum). Uplifting the human race based on the philosophy of the age – Rousseau, Voltaire, etc. – which can basically be summed up in one word – ‘rationalism.’ Which meant that mankind, using the power of his own intellect, could solve all his own problems and build paradise on earth, with his own hands and without the need of religion or God. This is why this new manifestation of satanic power was called the Illuminati – meaning ‘the enlightened ones.’ The Illuminati considered/consider themselves the pinnacle of human rationality, they are the self-appointed demi-gods of the human race. Therefore, they have the right to rule over the ignorant unwashed masses, and they justify it all by claiming it is all for the ‘common good.’ By contrast the ‘private face’ only for the insiders, was the need for revenge, not just against the pope, but also the Catholic kings who compelled the papacy to abolish them. And ultimately, to the full and complete restoration of the Jesuit order.

The Illuminati Exposed

In spite of the fact the Bavaria was a Jesuit stronghold, they did not control the nations police. Some of the Bavarian government officials were informed and an investigation was carried out including raids on the leader’s homes. Further documentation was obtained when, on July 10, 1785, an Illuminati courier (Johann Jacob Lanz), was riding through the German town of Ratisbotn (now called Regensburg). He was on his way to Paris, with instructions for the conspirators there, about the up-and-coming French Revolution, when he was struck by lightening and killed. The documents he was carrying fell into the hands of the police. In 1787, the Bavarian authorities/police published the results of their investigation, under the title ‘Einige Originalschriften des Illuminaten Ordens’ (Munich, 1787):

A March 2, 1785 government edict “seems to have been a deathblow to the Illuminati in Bavaria”. Weishaupt had fled and documents and internal correspondences, seized in 1786 and 1787, were subsequently published by the government in 1787. Von Zwack’s home was searched (Oct. 11, 1786) to disclose much of the group’s literature. Wikipedia, art, Illuminati

They discovered the plot against the French monarchy and they sent letters to all the nations of Europe, warning them about what was to come. Nothing was done to prevent it, no investigations were made, the warnings were ignored. What the Police did not realise, was that some of the kings and other aristocrats of other nations were in on the plot, they wanted the French monarchy to fall. [Even King Louis VI’s own cousin, the Duc d’ Orleans, a freemason grand master, took a leading role in the conspiracy against the King. The Duc was nick named ‘Philippe Égalité’ and the ‘Godfather of the Revolution’].

Frederick the Great of Prussia

When the papacy abolished the Jesuits, they found refuge, not in Catholic countries, but Orthodox and Protestant nations. Catherine the Great of Russia, took them in because she wanted to modernise Russia and the Jesuits were supposed to run the best schools in Europe and be the best teachers. The other place that took them in, was the Protestant nation of Prussia.

Far from submitting to the papal brief, the Jesuits, after some ineffectual attempts at direct resistance, withdrew into the territories of the non-Roman-Catholic sovereigns of Russia and Prussia, Frederick II, and Catherine II, both of them freethinkers, who became their active friends and protectorsEncyclopedia Britannica, vol. 13, 9th Edition, p. 655.

Frederick the Great, was the king of Prussia. History has called him the ‘great’ because he was the king who began the process of uniting the many different German speaking nations and city states, into what eventually became the modern nation of Germany. In order to achieve hegemony over these disparate German political entities, Frederick had to fight many wars. France did not want to be challenged for the dominance of Europe by a united Germany, therefore, France was one of Frederick’s greatest obstacles. France, had to be destroyed or at least destabilised, in order for Frederick to achieve his goals.

It just so happened, that Frederick as king of a powerful nation, was also the head of Freemasonry in Europe. Albert Mackey, is recognised as one of the foremost authorities on Freemasonry, the following is what he wrote about Frederick the Great:

…on the 1st of May, 1786, Frederick II, King of Prussia, caused the high degrees and Masonic Constitutions of the ancient Rite to be revived. He added eight degrees to the twenty-five already recognized in Prussia and founded a Supreme Council of thirty-three degrees, of which he himself constructed the regulations in eighteen articles. Albert G. Mackey, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, (McClure Publishing Co. Philadelphia, 1917), p. 329.

Frederick saw his opportunity to deal with France, with the abolition of the Jesuits he wrote the following to his friend and fellow conspirator, the French philosopher Voltaire:

I shall hoard the precious seed [the remnants of the Jesuits] in order to redistribute it one day to those who may wish to cultivate this rare plant in their own land.  Frederick the Great, letter to Voltaire, Jesuits: A Multi biography, op. cit., p. 300.

Frederick knew that whoever preserved the ‘precious seed’ and cultivated the ‘rare plant’ would be able to use it for their own political ends. And Frederick and the Jesuits had the same political goals – the destruction of the French monarchy.

Further cultivation of the ‘rare plant’ took place at the Congress of Wilhelmsbad, in 1782. This is where and when the ‘rare plant’ of Jesuitism and Freemasonry were spliced together, to form a brand-new hybrid plant. Inspiration has called this ugly hybrid – ‘a new manifestation of satanic power.’

The Congress of Wilhelmsbad

The Congress of Wilhelmsbad was held in a castle owned by the Rothschild banking family. The Rothschild name is a name that is notorious in certain circles, namely, all those who study secret societies, and their influence in the higher echelons of banking, government, big business etc. Many of these researchers, historians and commentors, mention the pivotal role of the Congress of Wilhelsbad, such as the following:

Albert Mackey (freemason historian) called the Congress “the most important Masonic Congress of the eighteenth century” quoted by, A. Ralph Epperson, Masonry: Conspiracy Against Christianity, 1997, p. 319.

On July 16, 1782, at the Congress of Wilhelmsbad, near the city of Hanau in Hesse-Cassel.  It (the Illuminati) was initiated by Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick, Grand Master of the Order of Strict Observance. Albert Mackey, Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry, p. 1006.

…its (the Congress of Wilhelmsbad) importance to the subsequent history of the world has never been appreciated by historians… What passed at this terrible Congress will never be known to the outside world, for even these men who had been drawn unwittingly into the movement, and now heard for the first time the real designs of the leaders, were under oath to reveal nothing. Nesta H. Webster, World Revolution, 1921, p. 31.

The power and influence of the Illuminati achieved a great leap forward through a formal alliance with continental Freemasonry that was sealed during the Congress of Wilhelmsbad which began July 16, 1782, when representatives of some three million members of Europe’s secret societies met and adopted organizational plans formulated by the Illuminati. Gary Allen, Illumunism, The Great Conspiracy, (American Opinion, June, 1976), p. 47-49.

At the grand convention of Masonry held at Wilhelmsbad in 1782 the Order of the Strict Observance was suspended, and Von Knigge disclosed the scheme of Weishaupt to the assembled representatives of the masonic and mystical fraternities. Then and there, disciples of Saint-Martin and of Willermooz, as well as the statesmen, scientists, magicians, and magistrates of all countries, were converted to Illuminism. Edinburgh Review, Illuminism and the French Revolution, July 1906, p. 57.

One participant at the Congress was the aristocrat, Comte de Virieu. He would have agreed with Nesta Webster, that this was a terrible Congress and that he was bound by oaths not to reveal anything. But he revealed enough to be quoted by historians:

The Comte de Virieu thereafter “could only speak of Freemasonry with horror,” according to his biographer M. Costa de Beauregard. William T. Still, New World Order: The Ancient Plan of Secret Societies, (1990), p. 82.

On some occasion, the same Comte de Virieu, revealed why he was so horrified:

The Comte de Virieu, however, returned from the Congress and refused to say what had been decided: “I can only tell you that all this is very much more serious than you think. The conspiracy which is being woven is so well thought out that it will be, so to speak, impossible for the Monarchy and the Church to escape from it.” quoted by Gary Kahl, En Route to Global Occupation, (1991), pp. 25, 26.

The French Revolution

When most people read about the French Revolution, all they see are irresponsible and oppressive elites verses hungry and angry multitudes and a spontaneous, impulsive uprising. However, others see more than the average observer. The British historian and politician (and Catholic), Lord Acton, saw the following:

The popular narrative is that the French people rose up and over threw the oppressive and exploitative upper class. The reality is that the Revolution was a coup by one section of the upper class against another. It was the organized secret societies against the unorganized, unwitting, majority. The appalling thing in the French Revolution is not the tumult, but the design. Through all the fire and smoke we perceive the evidence of calculating organisation. The managers remain studiously concealed and masked; but there is no doubt about their presence from the first.  Lord Acton, Lectures on the French Revolution, p. 97.

Others say they can see exactly who the ‘managers’ were – the ones who ‘remained studiously concealed and masked’:

Without exception, every chief actor in the French Revolution was either Jesuit-educated, a Catholic prelate, or a member of the Illuminati Order where within the Jacobin Club they would come together to conspire and carry out the ‘Great Work’ – which in the open system of the Jacobins was the reflection of the complete hidden system of the Illuminati – and in back of the Illuminati were the hidden Jesuit masters.  John Daniel The Grand Design Exposed, 1999; pp. 212, 213.

Therefore, when Ellen White tells us that the French Revolution was perpetrated by ‘a new manifestation of satanic power’ we now know that this power was the amalgamation of Jesuitism and Freemasonry:

In many of the nations of Europe the powers that ruled in Church and State has for centuries been controlled by Satan, through the medium of the papacy. But here is brought to view a new manifestation of satanic power. Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p. 269.

Both the Jesuits and the Freemasons had common goals. In the first instance, it was revenge for their treatment by French kings and Roman Catholic popes. In the case of Freemasonry this is secretly revealed (meant for the 33-degree level freemasons only):

When Louis XVI was executed half the work was done and henceforward the Army of the Temple was to direct all its efforts against the Pope.  Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, pp. 823, 824.

Louis XVI was executed in 1793. In 1798, ‘the army of the temple’ entered Rome and gave the papacy its ‘deadly wound’ (see Rev. 13:3):

In 1798 General Berthier made his entrance into Rome, abolished the papal government, and established a secular one. Encyclopedia Britannica, 1941 ed.

Berthier entered Rome on the 10th of February, 1798, and proclaimed a republic… No wonder that half of Europe thought …the papacy was dead. Joseph Rickaby (Jesuit) The Modern Papacy Lectures on the History of Religion, Lecture 24, (London Catholic Truth Society, 1910), p.1.

There is a principle in crime detection that has passed the test of time. The principle is ‘cui bono’ (who benefits from the crime?). Ellen White tells us who suffered in France prior to the French Revolution and who benefited:

With the flight of the Huguenots a general decline settled upon France. Flourishing manufacturing cities fell into decay; fertile districts returned to their native wildness; intellectual dullness and moral declension succeeded a period of unwonted progress. Paris became one vast almshouse, and it is estimated that, at the breaking out of the Revolution, two hundred thousand paupers claimed charity from the hands of the king. The Jesuits alone flourished in the decaying nation, and ruled with dreadful tyranny over churches and schools, the prisons and the galleys.  Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p. 279.

The Jesuits had the supremacy in France. With the suppression, they lost that supremacy. With the revolution they regained the supremacy. The Archduke Maximilian Francis of Austria (brother of the guillotined Queen of France, Marie Antoinette) was in no doubt about who killed his sister and brother-in law:

“They the Jesuits have so constantly mixed themselves up in court and state intrigues that they must, in justice, be reproached with striving after universal dominion. They cost kings their lives, not on the scaffold, but by assassination, and equally hurtful as the society of Illuminati; they were foremost among the crowd, at all events, who applauded the murder scenes in Paris…” Hector Macpherson, quoting Archduke Francis of Austria, The Jesuits in History, (Ozark Book Publishers, Springfield, Missouri, 1900), pp. 126, 127.

Many people cannot see the hand of the Jesuits in the French Revolution because along with the aristocrats and the general population, thousands of Catholic priests lost their lives. Therefore, those blind towards Jesuit involvement reason, that the Jesuits cannot be the perpetrators because they would not kill Catholic priests. However, this is precisely why the Catholic priests were killed, because prior to the Revolution “the Jesuits alone flourished in the decaying nation.” When the Jesuits were abolished the other Catholic religious orders (and many others) rejoiced, because they hated and feared the Jesuits. When they were abolished, their property was taken over by the Jesuits greatest rivals within the Catholic Church, the Dominicans. Therefore, when the Jesuits instigated and directed the French Revolution, they took the opportunity, not only to exact revenge against their political opposition, but also their religious opposition. The Jesuits have consistently shown, that they will diligently work, to eliminate all opposition, both within and without the Catholic Church.

Napoleon Bonaparte

When the Spanish king, suppressed the Jesuits in his domain and shipped them back to Italy, the various Italian authorities refused them permission to disembark and enter Italy. After, much wrangling, the Jesuits were finally allowed to disembark onto the island of Corsica. Thus, it was, that Corsica became thoroughly infested with Jesuits and it just so happened, that Corsica’s most famous son, Napoleon Bonaparte, was born and grew up there.

Napoleon was the greatest instrument, in the hands of the Jesuits, with which the Jesuits chastised the kings and emperors of Europe. The kings and emperors of Europe were guilty of insisting on the abolition of the Jesuits and now their descendants were going to be punished for their impudence. The Jesuits were sending a message “everyone who attacks us, will be attacked in return, no matter how long it takes.”

Napoleon began his political career, by means of a coup, in 1799 and he assumed the title of ‘First Consul’ of the French Republic. In reality, Napoleon was now ‘First Dictator’ of the defunct Republic. The ‘Second Consul’ was one of Napoleon’s co-conspirators, by the name of Father Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès, commonly called Abbé Sieyès, because he was a Jesuit priest. And it was this hand of the Jesuits that steered Napoleon into power:

After becoming a director in 1799, Sieyès was among the instigators of the Coup of 18 Brumaire (9 November), which installed Napoleon Bonaparte to power. Wikipedia, art. Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès.

Sieyes, Emmanuel Joseph (1748-1836), one of the chief political thinkers and writers of the period of the French Revolution and the first empire… He was destined for the Church, was educated by the Jesuits, became a licentiate of the Canon law… Encyclopedia Britannica, New American Supplement, 9th Edition, (The Werner Co., 1903), vol. XXII, p.45.

With Napoleon in power, the Jesuits, although being still officially banned and abolished by the Catholic Church, were allowed by Napoleon to officially return to France:

Religion had been a major issue during the French Revolution, and Napoleon resolved most of the outstanding problems. Thereby he moved the clergy and large numbers of devout Catholics from hostility to the government to support for him. The Catholic system was re-established by the Concordat of 1801 (signed with Pope Pius VII), so that church life returned to normal; the church lands were not restored, but the Jesuits were allowed back in and the bitter fights between the government and Church ended. Protestants and atheists were tolerated. D.M.G. Sutherland, France 1789–1815. Revolution and Counter-Revolution (2nd ed. 2003) chap. 11.

Not all commentors and historians were blind to what Napoleon’s true purpose was. They saw that Napoleon, was just one of many politico/religiose figures that have been used and manipulated by the Jesuits:

Weishaupt and his fellow Jesuits cut off the income to the Vatican by launching and leading the French Revolution; by directing Napoleon’s conquest of Catholic Europe; [and] …by eventually having Napoleon throw Pope Pius VII in jail at Avignon until he agreed, as the price for his release, to re-establish the Jesuit Order. Emanuel M. Josephson, The Federal Reserve Conspiracy and the Rockefellers, 1968, p. 3.

When the Jesuits had thoroughly humbled the monarchies of Europe and the Catholic Church, it was time to ‘retire’ Napoleon and get themselves officially restored to power. This was accomplished when Pius VI was released from French captivity, whereupon he immediately restored the Jesuits:

Seen as a kind of living martyr by much of Europe, Pius was a highly honored survivor of Napoleon’s warfare and bullying. Almost as soon as Pius returned in triumph to Rome in the spring of 1814, he acted to restore the Jesuits throughout the world. Thomas Worcester S. J., America (Jesuit Magazine), July 22, 2014.  https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2014/07/22/unlikely-story-how-jesuits-were-suppressed-and-then-restored

After Pope Pius VII was released from Napoleon’s prison, he formally restored the Jesuit order with a Papal Bull in 1814.  Ian R. Paisley, The Jesuits, Puritan Printing Co., Belfast, 1968), pp. 9, 10.

After restoring the Jesuits into the good graces of the church and the world at large, Pius VII said:

…if any should again attempt to abolish it [the Society of Jesus] he would incur the indignation of Almighty God and of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Bull of Restoration, quoted by, Ian Paisley, The Jesuits, Puritan Printing Co., Belfast, 1968), pp.9,10.

The reason why the Pope was so eager to restore the Jesuits, was because the Jesuits were now styling themselves as the saviours and protectors of the ‘Old World Order.’ They argued that the recent tragic events would never have happened, if the Jesuits had not been abolished. Therefore, the papacy needed to restore the Jesuits so that the papacy would continue to have, “a naked sword, whose hilt is at Rome, and whose point is everywhere.” Encyclopedia Britannica, vol. 13, 9th ed. p. 648.

The Congress of Vienna

The victors over Napoleon, met in Vienna, in 1814, to create a world post-Napoleon. They decided, that they would organise the world, so that, nothing like the French Revolution could ever happen again. Once again, the Jesuits styled themselves as the essential protectors of the Old-World Order/Ancien Régime. The very instigators of revolution and chaos were now appointed by the Congress of Vienna as the champions of church and state:

The sovereigns of the ‘Holy Alliance’ had massed large armies, and soon entered into a pledge to devote them to the suppression of all uprisings of the people in favour of free government; and he [Pope Pius VII] desired to devote the Jesuits, supported by his pontifical power, to the accomplishment of that end. RW Thompson, The Footprints of the Jesuits, 1894, p. 251.

…because of political events [revolutions] favouring it [the Jesuit society], they have set foot again in Western Europe when their order was solemnly re-established by Pope Pius VII in 1814… It was impossible not to see in it an obvious act of counter-revolution. [i.e., against revolution, communism freemasonry and Jews]. Edmond Paris, The Secret History of the Jesuits, p. 71-72.

This Jesuit war on the Vatican was terminated by the Congress of Vienna and by the secret, 1822, Treaty of Verona.” Emanuel M. Josephson, The Federal Reserve Conspiracy and the Rockefellers, 1968, pp. 3, 4.

Not all contemporary observers were pleased, or fooled, by this Jesuitical sleight of hand, at this ‘unholy alliance’ with the Jesuits. Archduke Maximilian Francis of Austria (1756 – 1801), recognising the many levers that the Jesuits were pulling to achieve their goals said:

“They held in their hands all the springs for working upon mankind; money, protection…were plentifully at their command…and it is impossible, therefore to indulge in a conviction that the re-establishment of the Society of Jesus can be productive of any benefit whatever…” Hector Macpherson, quoting Archduke Francis of Austria, The Jesuits in History, (Ozark Book Publishers, Springfield, Missouri, 1900), pp. 126, 127.

John Adam’s observing the restoration of the Jesuits, whilst in London, England, wrote the following to Thomas Jefferson:

My history of the Jesuits is not eloquently written, but it is supported by unquestionable authorities, is very particular and very horrible.  Their restoration is indeed a step towards darkness, cruelty, perfidy, despotism, death… I do not like the appearance of the Jesuits.  If ever there was a body of men who merited eternal damnation on earth and in hell, it is this Society of Loyola’s.  J. E. C. Shepherd, The Babington Plot, Wittenberg Publications, Toronto, 1987), p.18, quoting letter dated May 5, 1816.

The chief architect and ‘influencer’ at the Congress of Vienna, was the foreign minister of the Austrian Empire, Prince Klemens von Metternich. Samuel Morse (creator of the morse code), spent much time working and travelling in Europe. He wrote the following (in a letter to Thomas Jefferson) about what he discovered how the elite ruled in Europe, exemplified by Metternich’s Austrian Empire:

…his rule was shored up by a standing army of soldiers, a sitting army of bureaucrats, a kneeling army of priests and a creeping army of informers. Samuel Morse, Foreign Conspiracy Against the Liberties of the United States, (Crocker & Brewster, Boston, 1835), vol. 1, p. 34.

The ‘kneeling army of priests’ and the ‘creeping army of informers’ were of course led by the Jesuits. Metternich was well aware that the newly created United States of America, was the foremost beacon of freedom and hope for all the downtrodden masses of the world, and Morse was also well aware that the American republic was in great danger from Metternich and the Jesuits:

The author (Morse) undertakes to show that a conspiracy against the liberties of this Republic is now in full action, under the direction of the wily Prince Metternich of Austria, who knowing the impossibility of obliterating this troublesome example of a great and free nation by force of arms, is attempting to accomplish his object through the agency of an army of Jesuits. The array of facts and arguments going to prove the existence of such a conspiracy, will astonish any man who opens the  book with the same incredulity as we did.    Samuel B. Morse, Foreign Conspiracy Against the Liberties of the United States, 1835, preface.

Morse was relentless in his efforts to warn all who would listen to him about the Jesuit plot against America. All the leading men of his age were well aware of the consequences of daring to create a free, self-governing nation. When Benjamin Franklin was leaving Independence Hall, after everything was agreed upon, a woman asked him, “Doctor Franklin, what sort of government do we have?” To which Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it!” Lincoln famously said, in his Gettysburg address, that the American Civil War was fought so that, “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Therefore, because of these well-known and obvious dangers to the newly minted America republic, the republic promulgated a decree, called the Monroe Doctrine, in 1823. This Monroe Doctrine, stated that the Western Hemisphere was out of bounds to the Old-World/ Ancien Regime. America was throwing down the gauntlet. America was declaring war against, the enemies of free men, and their ‘armies of Jesuits.’

Conclusion

In the last days, God’s people are called upon to give that last warning to the world. It will be a powerful message, accompanied by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit (see Rev. 10:11, 18:4). This message is to call God’s people out of Babylon. The ‘new manifestation of satanic power’ has captured the world, including the greater part of God’s people. The ‘new manifestation of satanic power’ has captured the religious, political and banking/financial institutions and centres of the world (see Rev. 17:2, 12, 13, 18:23). And in addition, the ‘new manifestation of satanic power’ has captured the ‘minds’ of the people (see Rev. 17:2, 18:13). When the time comes for God’s last message to go out to the world, all of this will be exposed. God’s messengers need to understand what Babylon is, in order to expose it and in order to convince people to leave it.

Lastly, the reason why, the French Revolution and the ‘new manifestation of satanic power’ is included in the Book of Revelation, is because it serves as a type for the antitype to come in the future. When the world went through the French Revolution, it serves as a foretaste for the tribulations of the last days:

…anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defence of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France. Ellen White, Education, p. 228.
